Cloud services still require careful management. Poor access controls, exposed credentials or incorrect configuration can put data at risk. Other concerns include service outages, regulatory requirements, unpredictable usage charges and difficulty moving systems between providers.
Security follows a shared-responsibility model. The provider generally protects its facilities and core infrastructure, while customers remain responsible for areas such as account permissions, data classification and application settings. The exact division depends on the service agreement.
How to choose a cloud approach
Start with the workload rather than the trend. Consider data sensitivity, performance, availability, budget, integration and legal requirements. A simple web application may fit a public cloud platform, while regulated or highly customized systems may need private or hybrid infrastructure.
Cloud computing is not a single product. It is a way to obtain and manage technology resources with greater flexibility. The right model balances convenience and scalability with cost visibility, security and operational control.
